The latest Ob/Gyn women's health news on the California Octuplet birth is that the fertility doctor who helped her have 8 babies on top of the 6 she already had, will be facing a state investigation on his practices. There has been harsh critisism against the doctor from the public as well as the medical community. The California Medical Board has not yet identified the name of the doctor responsible for implanting the 8 embryos. Board spokeswoman Candis Cohen said last week that, "We are looking into the matter to see if we can substantiate if there was a violation of the standard of care."

Studies show an unusual decline in visits to ob/gyn and women's health suffer most because of it. The recent economic hardships has turned up evidence that women are declining to visit their doctors for routine exams, fill prescriptions and follow-up doctor visits. In the past, people have always kept their medical care a top priority but there are changes this year with the economic woes and shrinking health care coverage. Women's health care and preventive doctor visits to their ob/gyn was down 6% this last quarter compared with the same time last year. Some are finding this to be a sign not only of hard financial issues but also that more people are waking up to the fact that prescription drugs just aren't for them and they are taking charge of their own bodies.
