Government, Women's Health Specialists To Decide If Women Can Store Eggs For More Years

womens health specialistsNew government plans are underway for women to be able to store their frozen eggs for up to 55 years if doctors and women's health specialists raise no objections to the issue. Right now under current regulations the embryos can be stored only for a maximum of 10 years before they are destroyed. Extending this time will give many women hope such as young women who know they will become infertile, such as through cancer treatment. At least they will have the hope that later in life they can start a family if they want to. A spokesman for the Department of Health says that they expect this regulation would only apply to a very small number of women.

ob gyn womens healthThe latest Ob/Gyn women's health news on the California Octuplet birth is that the fertility doctor who helped her have 8 babies on top of the 6 she already had, will be facing a state investigation on his practices. There has been harsh critisism against the doctor from the public as well as the medical community. The California Medical Board has not yet identified the name of the doctor responsible for implanting the 8 embryos. Board spokeswoman Candis Cohen said last week that, "We are looking into the matter to see if we can substantiate if there was a violation of the standard of care."
