Keeping Up With Women's Health Care

women's health careIn keeping up with women's health care, it is extremely important that we women stay up to date on the latest advances in our health care. First, there seem to be so many areas of our body that are specific and distinct from general health care.

We have to keep up with the cancers that we are susceptible to just because we are women. For example, cervical cancer is a disease that is so common among women of various ages and ethnicities. It goes undetected for such a long time because its symptoms are similar to other less harmful vaginal dysfunctions. We can become one less life that is negatively effected by cervical cancer by taking advantage of the Gardasil vaccine.

The Lates in Womens' Gynecological Health News

womens' gynecological health newsIn keeping up with the latest womens' gynecological health news, I have stumbled across some amazing finds. Upon a routine well woman exam in my family doctor's office, she informed me of the latest vaccine that was created especially for women. It is available for women between the ages of 9 and 26 years old.

This new developed product is called Gardasil. Gardasil is the only vaccine out there, currently, that is made to protect women against diseases caused by human papillomavirus types 16, 18, 6, and 11. These different strains of HPV are what ends up causing 70%-90% of cervical cancer cases among women. It's important to note that this vaccine will not protect against disease caused by other HPV types

Who Are Our Partners in Women's Health?

partners in womens healthWe all know there are many things that we have to do to keep up with our health. Our bodies are wonderful, miraculous machines that can take care of itself much of the time. You would be surprised how much our body can go through before it actually starts relying on outside sources like pills and other medicines. But sometimes, we do need the help of other resources in order to manage our health. For women, there are many useful resources that should be considered our partners in women's health. These partners are our doctors, our moms who we consult with questions of similar experiences, and even our friends who consult if we want to know if we are the "only ones" going through this sort of stuff! Other partners in our health upkeep can be considered pamphlets and magazine that we consider useful when we are gaining knew knowledge on things like at-home breast exams.

More Womens' Health Questions

womens health questionsAs I progressively come of age I have more and more womens' health questions. For example, why do women have to get a pap smear every year even if they are not sexually active? Another question I have is why are mammograms only available for women who are forty years old or older? I have given myself numerous breast exams but have not been able to tell the difference between the harmful lumps and the normal lumps that are supposed to be there! But so many times, I have felt lumps and thought, "oh my goodness--is it good or bad?" So, I think I should get a mammogram just to be on the safe side at least. Another question I have is, why would breast lift surgery be considered a "cosmetic" surgery. Women who get breast lifts are getting them because their breast are so heavy that they are weighing them down and hurting their back. This is an important health decision, not a cosmetic decision. Right?
